Title I Family Engagement

What is Title I?

Title I is the largest federally funded education program that provides extra support to schools with many students from low-income households. Schools qualify when at least 40% of students come from low-income households (and are required to be served if 75% or more qualify).

At a Title I school, all students benefit from the resources, not just those counted in the income level data used to determine funding.

These funds help schools by:
  • Hiring extra teachers, assistants, and instructional coaches
  • Purchasing classroom and learning materials
  • Supporting tutoring before and after school
  • Providing technology and equipment
  • Offering training for teachers and principals
Family engagement is also a key part of Title I, as schools and families work together to help students succeed.
